Par-tay! Free Christmas Music from Amazon

Harken, my peeps! One of Amazon's FREE mp3 downloads right now is a Holiday Sampler with five great songs. It is really fun, especially the Les Brown "Nutcracker Suite." I've been listening to it while tearing apart a chicken carcass (for stock) with my bare hands. I feel a little Clan of the Cave Bear here, but more festive.

When you're on that Amazon page, down below you'll see several other free albums. The Celebrating 10 Years of Music is great if you like classical. I don't have an iPod, but one of our computers has big speakers, and I play music on it all the time. I think the Holiday Sampler mixed with the classical stuff would make a nice little playlist if you're having people over for some 'nogg. Or wassail. Do people still do wassail?

The excellent Southern Savers tipped me off to this and I wanted to pass it along. Free Christmas music makes a Works for Me Wednesday!

Okay, I'm going to admit something here. I freaking LOVE Christmas music. Seriosly. All of it. I would listen to it year round if people would not think I was totally insane. You know how some people hate that stores start playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I am NOT one of those people. I am the antithisis of those people.

i went to a birthday party last week, where the host served wassail. not the modern mulled cider spin on wassail, but honest-to-goodness medieval German wassail. it was terrible. pretty much just warm, flat, bland ale with the tiniest hint of cinnamon.

i mean, those people ate boiled mutton and called it a feast, so i shouldn't be surprised, but it's the first drink in a long time i've been handed but have refused to finish...

(LOL: the last one i remember was that MGD you gave me back when you were on your carb-free kick. even that was better than wassail.)

my suggestion: free music or not, stick with the nog or inauthentic mulled cider.

David, respect the MGD! I kid, those were dark times, those low-carb times. I think it was Miller Lite though. Interesting about the wassail. You're right--we don't remember the wassail people as culinary tastemakers.

And Jenni, I love Christmas music too! I think it's a little crazy how early stores stock xmas decorations, but I DO like to get in the spirit in other ways.

There must be something in the air... I just finished writing a Christmas Music post of my own. =)

Thanks for this! Can't get enough of the holiday tunes.

David and Becky, your comments on wassail and feasts of boiled mutton make me think of this FABULOUS bbc show that they should so totally show on our side of the Atlantic--it's called "Supersizers Go"... and in each show, they go to the Elizabethan period, the Victorian period, World War II, etc. It's these comedians who do a version of that movie Supersize Me, but instead of eating all McDonalds, they have professional chefs cook them all feasts from a particular era for a week. Here's a posting on their show on the Elizabethan period: http://www.justhungry.com/the-supersizers-go-elizabethan
FABULOUS. If you can find the entire show to watch, do it. Now.

Oh, and I'm excited to pull out my John Denver and the Muppets Sing Christmas Carols album soon. Seriously. And I don't even have kids, so I don't get to use that as an excuse of why I love listening to the Muppets sing.

Veronica... I completely forgot about The Muppets Christmas! I love "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" where all chaos breaks out... good times.

Cool! I just looked at that TV show page, Veronica, and it looks so good. I love how it says that the Elizabethans loved "pretty food," like salads with flowers, but they also have the sheep's head presented surrounded by its entrails. Yum!
