No Business Like It

Tonight was the opening of the middle school play, The Wizard of Oz. Laura is one of the talking, apple-throwing trees. No actor has ever been more thrilled with a role.

You will be hearing more about this, no doubt. But right now I'm marveling at this text exchange I saw between Laura and her friend. (Laura's iMessages come to my phone.)

You see, Laura has this little boyfriend, in the middle school sense of he's some boy who said, "Will you go with me?" And she was like, "Okay," even though they don't go anywhere. And they don't sit together in class because they have assigned seats. She goes, "We talk by shouting across the room." Sweet!

So her gal pal is texting her asking for this boy's number, because apparently Laura has spread the word that "it isn't working out," and in her text Laura is like, "Do you like him? You should go out!" And the girl goes, "I do like him," and Laura's all, "Can I tell him??" And the girl says, "Sure okay!" And just like that she's passed him to her friend, and I didn't even know she knew how to do that. We're not in Kansas anymore.

Right now my dad is combing the tangles out of Laura's hair. They teased it horribly for the show tonight. Because trees need really really big hair. More tomorrow.
xoxo

yet another image that leaves us all wishing Camp Papa was *our* grandpa. or dad. or, somehow, both.

Did you use Elnett? Because you can brush right through it; it isn't just bullshit to sell hairspray.

My daughter is in middle school too, and that "going with" stuff is pretty funny at this age. The girls are really way ahead of the boys, and neither really has any idea what it all means :-)

Does the boy know he's been traded?

Beth, I think the boy now knows he's been traded. Nobody seems any the worse for wear, emotionally!

Elle, I wish the hair mothers were using this magical Elnett, because every night it takes an hour to restore her hair to normal. It is bumming us out.
