I Raced Right in To Tell You

Laura just came home from Frenemy Neighbor's daughter's birthday party. Her goody bag contained a full-sized bar of Ivory soap. Discuss.

I'll be back to tell you the whole story of this party later but right now I'm laughing too hard.

Um. Maybe it's a case of "put whatever you have in the goody bags because you forgot to get favors"?

Was it at least a NEW bar of soap??

Speechless. This stuff is just too good to be true!

Huh. I've been trying so hard to figure out what little gift I could send w/ my son tomorrow (his bday and the first day of kinder!)

I think I'll steal this idea!!

I'm having one of those moments where you just stare at someone (or your computer screen) with your brow furrowed, opening & closing your mouth. Seriously. WTF?

Ha! I never get tired of hearing about your neighbors. They are hilarious.

I hope she's not implying anything.

This post reminds me if the Halloween in the Deep South, back in the mid-1950s when a neighbor gave each of us a piece of cornbread. I can't remember if it was buttered.

It is the name we trust for good, clean family fun. Seriously, that's their motto.

did she say a bad word in front of frenemy? is she a germaphobe? what did your daughter say about it? BIZARRE

Okay, I guess today is the day I delurk and say, WHAT THE HELL? Don't leave us hanging--more deets please!

Also, my verification word is "candbysr," which, whatever it is, I have no doubt would have made a better party favor than a BAR of SOAP.

Yeah, well, get the kid over to your house and send her home with a goodie-bag of airline liquor miniatures. Two can play at this game.

hm... never thought of that for a goody gift when throwing the girls parties.
questions:
Was it a "bath" themed party?
Was it a "creativity" party and she is supposed to carve it into something?
Was it a "green" party and they all learned the environmental harm of detergents?

okay... you got me with this one! Can't wait for the reveal.

Oh SJN, you are such a good event planner. This was none of those well-thought-out things. Actually that's a great idea for a scrimshaw-carving party using soap instead of whale tusk!

The liquor idea is good too.

Really? Because we always spring for the good stuff-- Dove (the white bar soap, not that new-fangled pink stuff)

My first thought (like Sjn) was ,
"Did she give them something to carve it into shapes?"
My second thought (I swear, Camp Papa!) was about that Halloween cornbread! P.S. It was buttered and quite good.
Becky, I know you're telling the truth....Even YOU couldn't make that up!
I love the airline liquor idea!

Darn it! I, too, thought it was a leftover party-craft!

Wow. I sent little soaps in the goody bag once, but they were flower-shaped finger soaps (v small), from the famed Pearl River Mart. And the kids were little, like about Hank's age, like where they would be into having their own fancy soap, wackos.

But drugstore soap for big girls? Our daughters are the same age and I'm not ... ok, now I'm laughing at the idea of the baby coming home with a bar of Ivory.

Was it a Things That Float party? Venetians! Hamas activists! Oil on Water! No? I am stumped! Do tell.

Is Frenemy African-American (I'm new to the blog and have no idea who Frenemy is)? Were there sticks of ebony in the goody bag, too?

That would be a perfect compliment to someone I know who's daughter got (no joke) towels with her initials as a party gift.

Amy said...

Um, wow. Did they have, like, a mud-pie-making party? More cogently, did ALL the kids get one, or just lucky Laura?

Joie said...

Was it USED? Like, did Frenemy like hop out of the shower and then hand each of the kids a used bar of soap from their plethora of soaps?

Ew.

On the other hand...Dove smells great. Makes my skin all creamy soft.

Marie said...

OK, Beck, this is killin' me.
What gives? Let's have the rest of the story!

I think we all want to know what else was in the bag. I'm picturing one of those individually-wrapped rolls of toilet paper.

Yeah... I just don't know what to say.

This is one of those things that runs the gamut from hysterical to puzzling to offensive, back to funny and then just puzzling again.

Maybe she forgot that her child's b-day party was that day and her daughter had to remind her and also tell her about goody bags and maybe Frenemy went around the house picking up random items and came across her 12-pack of soap.....?
Does Laura know that whenever she comes back from these interactions that she must disclose every detail??? :)

Are you kidding me??? You MUST discuss.

But don't you think Dove for Sensitive Skin would have been a better choice? Just sayin' ...

My first thought was that she does cvsing or something and this was a total freebie from her coupon stash. I have a big box of surplus freebie items that I am always looking through for either gifts or donations. I don't see how a bar of soap is appropriate for a girls goodie bag, but that's my guess.
