Let's Recall A Bad Idea

More Spray Painted Pumpkin

On this first day of fall, let's cast our minds back to how last year I caught a touch of the Martha and I spray painted a pumpkin white. I love to spray paint junk white. Or actually I painted it Krylon's Ivory in semi-gloss. I loved it. It was very SubMat. Then I got really busy and then Matt and I left town.

And left the pumpkin sitting on my table.

Then one morning while we were gone, Matt's mom called me from my house. The pumpkin had exploded on the table.

(crap)

Remember that?

That was sad.

That's all I have. I am just thinking about that spray painted pumpkin because I have a strong urge to do it again. The painting, not the furniture marring. I have a new can of ivory and a can of celery green. I bought the ivory paint for this humongous owl lamp that I got from a dumpster and that's in my garage and that's a whole 'nother story. But a few pumpkins in those colors would be so presh.

Oh spray paint, why can't I quit you?

Becky, I think that's about the time I started reading your blog -- and just today, I was at Michael's picking up school project stuff and they have some great white/ivory pumpkins made of foam (or whatever) that actually look pretty real. I thought of you then! They also had some cool gourds that were maybe paper mache, because they were more lightweight. My point being -- go faux!

I think you should do it. Just don't leave it on the table. Why did it explode? Or did it just kind of melt?

Also, just keep your spray paint away from *Matt's* junk.

Good tip, Beth! Now that would be crafty.

I don't really know why it exploded. And it apparently really just busted open. I think maybe it couldn't breathe?

I'm with Beth. The problem is not the spraypainting. The problem is the going out of town and leaving them on the table. Why don't you spray pain them and then put them outside. Could be an attractive autumnal decoration.

I love spray paint too .... it makes me happy. That might just be the fumes, but who knows?

I've mentioned before I also spray paint things - mostly funky 70's sculpture type stuff. I am very interested in the owl lamp however. I seem to be amassing quite the owl collection. At first I had a few I brought out for Halloween, but they seem to by multiplying. Happy Autumn!

I do remember that! Did the table ever recover? I remember sending you a name of some product we used.... Other than that, I say give into the urge!

Ooooo, celery and ivory. Sounds pretty. How could you go wrong? Maybe you could put one of your platters under the pumpkins this time. I feel inspired to spray me some punk ins' as well. You may have started a trend again.

What if you spray painted the pumpkin and put it inside/on top of something else? It really did look awesome as a center piece!

When can we see the owl lamp?

Oh, I remember that too! But it seemed like such a good idea at the time....

Are you SURE it's not a better idea this time around?

why not just buy a white pumpkin? I have bought white ones before. Paid a little more, but better than going thru the trouble of painting one.
