Somebody Better Undeck Some Halls

And I guess it will be me. We got back home last night from our holiday travels and today I'm staring Real Life square in the face. Unflinching! Being home will be good for my continuing plan to eat sensibly and healthily, as ham and frosting should not be the base of one's food pyramid.

The kids don't go back to school until Thursday, which is nice. Laura is making use of the last few days of vacation. This afternoon, she has rehearsed her talent show number with one friend and is now ice skating with another. Hank and I are about to play with his new Legos. I'm going to try to play with him at the same time that I clear the dining room table of Christmas decorations.

Marimekko Panels
All that stuff will be put away today.
Speaking of which, did I ever show you my Marimekko panels after I got them hung in the dining room? I love how they look in there. My mom and dad helped me get them placed right, and it was like taking the math portion of the GRE. We didn't have any fancy lasers or picture hanging tools like that though. Have we already had this conversation?

So today needs to be spent tidying and regrouping and other acts of domestic administration. Are your kids still out of school?

I leave you with a brief video of Hank and Matt's stunt from the weekend.

Yes, I think we saw the prints hung in the dining room, but I don't mind drooling over them again. Wow.

Kids go back tomorrow! Jason, too. I'll miss them, but YES, I need my routine of eating right and working out. The scale was groaning yesterday morning...

Those panels look great! I need to undeck these halls, too. Every time that I mean to start working on that, I wind up either cleaning out a kitchen cabinet or sitting in the recliner -- both of which are irresistible activities at 9 mos pregnant. Too bad cleaning up Xmas doesn't seem to fall into the nesting urge, at least in my mind.

Well, undecking didn't happen! I started putting a few things away and Hank said, "Why are you taking away our Christmas?" Then he insisted that "it's still the Christmas season," and it seemed important to him. Little buddy, bless him! So I told him that we would wait a little longer.

V, sit in the recliner and leave the decorations up until the Epiphany! Patrick is Catholic, he'll understand.

We finished undecorating today in a flurry of industriousness -- one of my sons, The Husband and me. It's a beautiful thing. My house seems serene and uncluttered in contrast. I have plans for serious, serious reorganization. My boys go back to school tomorrow, but Sophie not until next week.

The first thing I was going to say was how much I loved the panels. Have fun with the Legos. Be careful that you don't step on one of those little tiny ones. They like to find their way in the toe joints. Very painful.

Usually I keep Christmas going till Three Kings' Day, but this year I am tired of it. I haven't stripped the house yet because the crèche is not fulfilled (see above), but every day since the 26th (when there were still TWO more nights to Hanukkah!) is like walking on shards of glass. The Ghost of Christmas Little Mermaid or whatever. Bleargh.

Love the panels! Oh, and the Legos...my or my did we receive Legos this year. As if we didn't have enough already...Pete's aunt works for Lego, so we get them hand over fist from his father...

As far as the Christmas stuff, tree pick-up is tomorrow, so those decorations are going away tonight. Normally we'd wait til the Epiphany, but with my DIEP on Friday, we need room for the recliner in that corner :-) The others we'll leave up a bit longer, though, as Nick just doesn't want Christmas to end and that is rather sweet.

Haha! Hank's bow at the end totally makes the video.

Off to un-deck me some halls right now. Happy New Year to all of you. xoxo

LOVE the panels, they look great with your furniture and lighting, and from here they are hung perfectly straight and proportional, worth your time and effort!
I finished undecking and cleaning today. The house feels so stark right now... may need a trip to HG to see what the first interesting find of 2012 will be.

The panels look great! I want them.

I love your laugh in the video, it's like you know this is amusing and Hank is having fun and Matt won't let him get hurt, but you are also visualizing all the ways this trick could go horribly wrong.

Oscar went back to school on Tuesday, and we undecked the halls this weekend. The recycling people picked up the tree yesterday. We do still have the holiday cards up, though. I'll take them down this weekend.
