Liberty of London for Target: My Haul

Liberty of London for Target
Six pillows, the duffel purse, an acrylic tray, two acrylic boxes, a flower pot, a bra and panties, and a sundress (on the bench).

You knew this post was coming, right? I will say that this Liberty of London stuff caught me at a very vulnerable time. But still I showed restraint. At first. For example, the first time I went to Target after some of the Liberty had been put out on the shelves, I brought home exactly one acrylic tray, two acrylic boxes, a flower pot, a bra and panties, and one pillow. Okay it sounds like a lot, but the part I want you to focus on is the ONE PILLOW. One lonely pillow! It was one of the peacock blue ones above, and I thought, "You don't really go with my house but you're so pretty, I can't just leave you here." And twenty dollars! I mean, it's a lot of pillow for twenty dollars, what with that flange, and the piping, and the velvet back. So I brought it home and sat it in one of the extra chairs in my dining room where I could look at it for a while.

Then every dang time I went to Target, all the pillows were still there, despite being adorable and sold out online. Finally I was like, "FINE." So I bought all the ones I loved, figuring that I'd do something with them or sell them on ebay. But really, there are so many pillows in my life. Just so many. Today I took four back to the store (see what maturity?), and these six are the survivors.

Liberty Pillows

Liberty of London Duffel
This is one of my favorite prints. I also got a blouse in this. Okay so not everything is in the picture.

If you're still looking for some of the Liberty things, it looked like my store had done a restock today. Maybe yours has too. Some stuff I had never yet seen had appeared on the shelves, like this purse and some of the ceramics. Other stuff:

Liberty Bra

Liberty Men's Stuff

My overall review of this collection is that it's gorgeous, but I don't think every bit of it is equally wonderful. I was looking at the little ceramic teapots today, and on half of them the lids were so wonky that they wouldn't sit on the pots. Buyer beware on that stuff. The sets of three nesting prep bowls were great, but I only have so much cabinet space. The gardening stuff was cute but seemed a little gimmicky to me. Of course, I don't garden. The bedding sets were pretty, but I am up to here in bedding. Also, the sets had comforters rather than duvet covers, so not as exciting to me. I really wondered why there were no table linens. That's the missing piece. I liked the candles and the stationery, but I've passed them up several times so I guess they're not for me.

What seemed really special to me: the acrylic trays (you will use those forever) and the pillows. The bra I got also seemed like a very characteristic Liberty print. And I got it to cheer up my boobs, so that's a medical expense. Obviously.

So, since I made my last major foray, my mother-in-law has been on the hunt in her Targets in Chattanooga. She has nabbed me four ceramic mugs, the sheath dress (in the gold pattern) and the matching coat. OMG the coat. They aren't pictured because I don't yet have them in my hot little hands. That dress on the bench has an elastic tube top and ruffles all the way down. I look like a one-woman rhumba contest. Whatevs. I have the perfect shoes to go with it.

I was a little disappointed that most of women's clothing was not cotton, but poly-ish, which seems strange for Liberty. So I got this men's shirt, in a size L for big shirtedness.

Liberty Men's Shirt

Here I'm wearing it with a shawl my aunt made me, and I think it is a sort of modern granny look. That's my jam.

So what of the Liberty stuff did y'all get, or what do you still want to get? What seemed really special or unspecial to you? I am all ears.

I am impressed! Love the bra & panties for exactly the reason you got them. I got a sundress and a bunch of stuff for my daughter -- here is where you definitely demonstrated restraint; that girl-y stuff was too cute! I loved the bedding but am with you -- up to here with that. Wondering if that's the one thing I'll regret? Rethinking the acrylic trays ....

Lisa, you need the trays! The smaller one in the pink pattern is the one thing I might still buy, if it reappeared in the store.

Oh, and I did get Laura the one-piece bathing suit. I loved the little girls' stuff but I wasn't sure she would. It was so cute though.

Yes, I'll be needing those blue pillows, ok? I'm sure if you ever wanna see the new Lee Child book you'll be sending them to me.

And yes, that is TOTALLY a threat.

(LOVE that stuff. So adorable it causes me pain.)

The pillows. Not the blue ones, but the other three. I haven't been able to find them in my story. I'm practically hyperventilating reading this post. Seriously, Becky. If I can't find them this weekend, you may have to go and get them for me and I will pay you to ship them to me. *Breath, Jenni. Breath*

Lord, I keep looking at these photos--I love all this stuff. ALL of it. Argh. Darn Australian Target.

Go re-buy those pillows and send them to me. (or Jenni) :)

I want you and Jenni to fight for them. I kid?

Anyhoo, Jenni, when I was there today I didn't see any more of those floral ones--I had gotten those two the other day, but it will give me something to hunt for for you.

If I buy one more pillow JR will kill me but the boxes, a whole other story. Those I can take to work. They'll look lovely on my desk.

Liberty of London did a print for J Crew several years back and I have a shirt in the duffel print from back then. I was cleaning out my closet thinking, I never wear this thing anymore, maybe i could make a pillow out of it. Thinking that would never happen, I stuffed it in the pile for Goodwill, then I saw the Target line and dug it out of the bag. Still don't know if I will wear it or make something, but the shirt lives on another day!

you're making me want to run out to Target right now, at almost 9pm and after 2 glasses of wine! Well... I just about live next door to Target so maybe I'd be okay. I don't know if my Riverwood T would have all this stuff, it's not as good as yours is at Exit 14, that one is super awesome! Hmm... what to do?

I have zero:( so sad. I did catch a glimpse of a few patterns at our Target. I love all the colors and patterns, especially the blue peacock pillows.

The shirt and shawl look great too.

Holy Toledo! My favorites are those peacocky pillows. Beautiful shade of blue.

Showing remarkable restraint, I only picked up some stationery. That would be business related I hope. I have, however, been eyeing up an adorable purse for my nine year old daughter. It's only a matter of time before I buy it.

once again, crappity crap crap on the lack of Targets in Canada.

I was in Dallas last week, helping with my new grandbaby. I did a diaper run to Target and passed the CUTEST mise en place bowls and had to have a set. I had never heard of Liberty of London until I read your blog, but look at me having fresh, young taste! Yep, they are Liberty of London...

Amy said...

Yes, Keely, YES. Feelin' your pain over here in Oz.

We have "Target", but sister it ain't the same.

Now, see, I go for the stationery. I bought a card set, a box of 3 small notebooks (what am I going to do with MORE notebooks?), a swim coverup that I'm going to wear as a tunic, I think, and some kind of folder. So cute.

The Liberty stuff is super cute - I am going to have to go check out Target tomorrow. That shawl is WONDERFUL.

If you love these sorts of prints, you'd adore a place we visited in upstate NY. It was a B&B between Oneonta and Cooperstown, with wallpaper similar to the peacock pillows. Rich blues and golds. Other rooms had equally splendid stuff.

I was bitter about this (I am a great fan of Target but live in England where everything is heinously expensive) before I had a look at their website and saw that they are selling the Target range here! It is more expensive (what else is new) but minimally so. I am really surprised at the brand diffusion - Liberty is so crazy upmarket I daren't breathe the shop air.

puncturedbicycle said...

To clarify, I meant that the Target range is being sold on the Liberty website. My excitement compromised my clarity there.

Becky said...

Beth, what swim cover-up!?! Did I miss something? And PuncturedBicycle, that's great that they're selling it there. I know that the Orla Kiely line only being available in the US caused great consternation. And somehow Target seems to be an exception to the rule against diffusing your brand.

Now, please get to work on convincing Cath Kidston to do a Target thing.

The size of that haul made me laugh! Impressive!
The peacock feathers, the blues, that necktie!, the shirt. Very nice.

I'm lovin' the shirt-and-shawl combo! I kept thinking I would like to go check out some of that stuff, but then I realized I would have to get in the car, and get the baby in the car, and get the baby into Target, and be in Target, and all those florescent lights, and just thinking about all the lights and the driving made me too tired and I decided to watch Oprah instead. Glad you got a pretty bra to cheer up your boobs!!

OK. I confess. I had spotted some melamine plates and bowls for outdoor use this summer since we now have a table with a tile top: ceramic and porcelain plates are clearly a hazard. I only THOUGHT about purchasing until I read your ringing endorsement of Liberty of London. You validated my yearnings and thus I promptly bought the tableware with some Target brand clear tumblers. But since we burned through endless forests of paper plates last summer during a prolonged kitchen remodel, I am committed to reusable stuff now matter how trendy or floral! I am a Target addict and I'm not sure your blog is going to be good for that.

Wow. You did Morris & Co. proper, dude!... And with all the money you saved (hehe), maybe you can look into one of the wallpapers for that bathroom of yours!

No trips to Target in my future, but the ties and pocket squares at the wedding were Liberty of London. Here's hoping they're not now on offer at Target, because, if so, we got robbed last October! :D

Damn it. I was trying to avoid the Target this week, but I'm in. Too good to pass up. You totally rock the granny look.

I went to Target today because I found myself worrying that they'd run out of the Liberty stuff. Our Target is so-so, and I don't think they had everything, but I got a picture frame, a mini-notebook set (which is my favorite item), and two storage boxes (one with a lid and one without). I'm not a big shopper, so this was a TON of items for me to buy. And I might go back to see if they get more kitchen items. Target's marketing department is genius.

I haven't gone yet; you're making me want to go tomorrow! I saw someone (female) mention getting a men's liberty shirt on twitter last week; maybe the reason is just what you found - weird fabric in the women's section.

Betsy said...

Where's the photo of you modeling the bra and panties? I really want to see the fit and style before I buy, you know?

Bonnie said...

Becky, I am holding you personally responsible for my recent uncharacteristic acquisition of two (soon to be four) Liberty of London pillows and one wallet. I went in because I just wanted to SEE the pillows, and was lured in by the wallet. Can't talk more now -- have to get back there and grab two more pillows.

You now have me half afraid to venture into Target - which is (thankfully?) 200 miles away. What gorgeous stuff you scored! : )
