Is Mother's Day Monday Not A Holiday, Really?

Hank and the beloved Annabelle.
Hey y'all, Happy Mother's Day Monday! (It's a thing.) I spent the morning at Hank's end-of-preschool class bowling party. It was fun but if we are being honest, it must be noted that five year-olds cannot bowl for crap.

Then, because I was down in its vicinity, I went to the Goodwill to look for jeans for myself and Matt. I went to the Goodwill not even because it is cheaper, but because it is closer, and if I have to go all the way over to the Gap at the mall, just no. Like I should spend my precious life force doing that.

So I went to the Goodwill and one of the benefits of being my new smaller size (single digits, OMG I'm telling everyone!) is that there are lots of cast-off jeans that fit me. I think that most women must be a size 12, because that's what I used to be and I could hardly never find good jeans that fit me at that size. Actually I was a 12 for a long time, and then I was a 14 for a while and then maybe I was kind of a large 14, I don't know. So today I had a choice of three good pairs of nearly new Gap jeans, and Hank sat patiently while I tried them on. Then I bought one of the pairs for seven dollars and got Hank a vanilla milkshake to reward his patience. Really, I complain sometimes but he is good as gold. Oh, and I found a pair of new boy's Sorel snowboots for ten bucks. They will fit Hank in a couple of years, so score.

I couldn't find any cheap jeans for Matt because of his inseam.

....

Yesterday morning, Mother's Day, it was raining, making for nice sleeping-in weather. At a perfect hour, not too early but before Matt or I was up, Laura appeared at my bedside with a cup of coffee and some buttered toast. She doesn't know how to brew coffee, but she had very enterprisingly microwaved a cup from the day before.

She climbed into bed with me. Then Hank appeared, proudly bringing me a carrot and the jar of peanut butter.

Breakfast in bed, from each according to his abilities. I ate the toast and the carrot and the peanut butter and it was the perfect amount of food.

Bedside coffee is awesome and I told Laura I want it to be a new Sunday tradition. Though I might teach her how to make a fresh pot.

Then I sat up against my pillows and read my book, and had Laura bring me a refill of reheated coffee. Reader, I did not leave my bedroom until it was time for us all to go to lunch. Then we ate and went to see The Avengers.

Did you mothers have a nice day? I hope you got some R&R time. Oh and every moment of the day, I had that song "Motherlover" lodged in my head. Nice.

xoxo

My second grader son did not (!) bring home the expected Mother's Day craft present this year. My refrigerator and I were very disappointed. And then I woke up on Sunday with that "Oh SHIT--I'm really sick, aren't I?" feeling. The little ones came in to peer at me with concern like a couple of clueless med students. I'm kind of surprised they didn't ask if I was going to die. I asked for a baggie of almonds, a cup of water, Kleenex, AND for my son to clean the cat's nasty-ass litter box. All of which he did, cheerfully, even, and I swear it made the difference between me wanting to just lie there and OD on NyQuil and being able to drag myself out of bed to lovingly spill my germs everywhere. All in all, a pretty good day. Although, had I read about your breakfast spread first, I definitely would have requested baby carrots and hummus instead of the almonds.

What a delightful Mother's Day surprise from Laura and Hank! How sweet that they remembered! I love the image of five year olds bowling and adore the picture of Hank and Annabell. Good on ya for single digit jeans!

Your Mother's Day sounds lovely, as does your Mother's Day Monday -- especially the single digit jeans story. I'm jealous. Sigh.

I took Sophie to the doctor today -- and then we went to the beach in the middle of the afternoon.

So there.

I also got a cup of coffee delivered for Mother's Day, although it was afternoon coffee on the couch, rather than morning coffee in bed.

We have a Keurig, and I have taught Emma exactly how much milk to put in the mug, how long to heat it in the microwave, and then which little K-cup to use :-)

I'm SO impressed by the recycled coffee - ingenious.

Lovely days! Single digits - wow. Maybe someday. I'm hanging out in my Eddie Bauer 14's, and they're not BUDGING. It's okay...as my sister reminds me, at least they're not too-tight 24's any longer.

Mothers Day was heavenly. No breakfast in bed, but Jason brought me coffee, and we brunched with my 'rents. Then...SPA DAY. Heavenly facial. My first one. And a DSW gift card, so new summer purse. Lovely.

Get your coffee maker all loaded up for Laura the night before and all she'll have to do is press the button to turn it on. That'll free up some time to add a bud vase with a rose and arrange everything on a tray to bring to you in bed.

Omg, I love that she recycled the coffee. Love. Adorbs.

Mothers' Day was perfect over by me, mostly because my husband put himself between me & any kind of ambitious juvenille weirdness.

I like to buy things online & then send them back. This is why a lot of my wardrobe is from Boden -- free returns. xox

What a wonderful mothers day! And you write about it in such a beautiful and funny way!

I woke on Mothers Day to my eldest whispering at me, "Mom? Mom? How do you turn on the milk thing?" He and his brother were trying to make me a latte. Bless their hearts, they actually brewed up the espresso and poured milk into the frothing pot, but they couldn't figure out how to turn it on. I told them I'd do it when I got up, and then 90 seconds later I heard the steam going off. That's when I pushed Steve out of bed to interrupt the impending burns.

I must remember the not-getting-out-of-bed part for next year. Sounds delicious... more so than the carrots, even.

I do wish to know, who is this Annabelle, and why is she draped on Kira's man??

I think Annabelle is just a temporary flirtation. Kira has nothing to worry about!
