I Love A Loveseat

And I don't care who knows it. The kids and I went up to the mountain house this weekend, in western North Carolina, where it rained, and rained all the time with the raining. We still had a nice, cozy time, and even got out a little bit on Saturday. But since I was inside a lot, I had a chance to spend time with a certain piece of furniture. And I want you guys to meet him (her?), so here:

In mom's sunroom

There she is. I am so proud of my mom for rocking this Ikea loveseat in her sunroom. It makes a statement, and the statement is, "Well HELLO THERE, FRIEND!"

Speaking of Mom, that sainted woman played Scrabble with both my kids. And somehow she let them both win.

Scrabble trio

And Dad brewed me some tea from White Pine needles. I guess that used to be a thing? Supposedly early Americans drank it to keep from getting scurvy. Anybody ever had any pine tea? We took a walk down the road, in the rain, to get the needles, then he chopped them up and steeped them for ten minutes. The resulting tea is light green, very aromatic, and nicely astringent. I'd definitely drink it again. A dab of honey would make it even better.

White Pine

I drove back to Atlanta, very slowly, in drenching rain. It is raining all over the Hundred Acre Wood, it seems. I intended to arrive home and write a more involved blog post (oh, how witty and thoughtful it was going to be!), but then Matt came in with a little game called Beatles Rock Band. And suddenly nothing seemed as important as the total crushing we gave "I Wanna Be Your Man." It appears that I can totally play guitar now. Yay!

I hope you all had a lovely, cozy weekend, perhaps more eventful than mine, but not too eventful.

Wow! It sounds so homey! Did you, like, sit on the porch and whittle anything?

I admit, I am partial to that loveseat as well. Looks like Mom finally found some cute pillows to go on it, too.

That is quite a loveseat! And I forgot to tell you earlier, a dad of one of the girls in Abbott's class is a VP at zillow :)

Never had pine-needle tea - but if I stumble on a case of scurvy I'll be sure to recommend it!

My weekend was joyfully boring!

I love that loveseat - it's gorgeous.

Your mom has great taste.

I am so jealous! You have the Beatles Rock Band at your home. I'd never get another thing done again.

Love your momma's bold bright taste!!

Hmm, I too was in NC this wkend and noticed the same sort of wetness of a drenching in the rainy wet drizzle...

What a perfect weekend! I want some of that tea.

We went shopping for sofas yesterday. No decision so far. I don't think I'll have success persuading Professor X to get one as cheery as your mom's. He is such a stick in the mud.

Here in the NW, the skies were clear and dry. But I know the rainy season is coming soon.

I love a loveseat too. Your mom's is beautiful and your mom looks totally cool. Think they'd adopt two additional grandkids? We could use a trip up north.

I want to go to the mountain house! Really. I mean it. I want to go to the mountain house. What do I have to do to make that happen? Am I frightening you?

Ha! Gretchen, you're not scaring me. It sounds like a great plan! Seriously, you too Casey, come to the ATL and I will take you there. I have keys.

"Joyfully boring" is a great description.

What a nice weekend! I'm in NC too but no rain here... 'course we're on the east side of the state.

Field trip to the mountain house? Please?

LOTS of rain in Texas, compared to what we are used to. That sofa is so busy the patterns move on my computer (I guess it's the moires effect). Really cool though, and comfy I am sure.

Wait! Don't leave without me. And I don't even need a bed -- that loveseat will do quite nicely.

Blog Camp at Becky's folks' mountain house?

I'm in.

And you haven't even told them about the hot tub yet!

Becky -- Hope you all are safe as Atlanta's getting flooded today. And, by the way, your parents rock! Endless Scrabble, and Ikea loveseat and white pine-needle tea. I love them!!!

Blog Camp is a terrific idea! The house sleeps 12, I think. Now, when would be good for everyone?

And thanks, Cathy, it is bad up here! I've never seen it rain like this, for so long, since we've lived here. We just got word that schools are closed tomorrow, so that should make things a little safer for people. As it happened, I kept Hank home from school today (he had a little fever), and it turned out to be a great day to stay in.

I meant to say, we are up on a high place, so I'm not worried about flooding at our house. I just don't see how the ground can hold all this rain.

A Public Service Announcement to myself and to local readers: do not attempt to drive through those big puddles.

Count me in! Who needs a big convention?! I can fit 6 others in a "Suburban" to help the Matron. After the ground dries up some and all these creeks return to normal.

Totally dreamy weekend.

I'm gonna try the tea.

Great news. I am also a guitarist. However, I rock Pat Benatar (sp?) and Aerosmith so I'm slightly more grunge than you. I hope we can still hang out. :)

Hope you aren't washing away down there, saw some pics today....CRAZY!
