I've got bathing suits on the brain this week, it seems. As we've been discussing, swimwear for women has somehow become deadly serious. Like, serious performance fabrics and major architecture is expected--does it cover enough/too much? Is it flattering? Grannyish? As Sara said, does it pinch your cellulite in the wrong place?
I got to thinking though, when you find a suit you like, you always remember it. A good suit just makes the summer more awesome. Do you have bathing suits that you look back on and think, "Yeah! That was a great one!" Maybe it's the suit itself, maybe it's how you looked then, maybe it's what you did while wearing it. I can think of a few, from different ages/life stages. If I can dig up enough old pictures, I'll share them in the coming weeks. Here's maybe my most favorite of all. I wish swimsuits for grown up ladies could be this lighthearted.
Okay, why wouldn't this work for us now? I think that with some gold hoop earrings and a straw hat, this would be perfect, total chic. Nautical is never, never out of style. And just fun. Can't you see it? Surely Boden would make this if we email them enough. I will await their call.
In the meantime, I'm submitting this to Bex's up and coming meme, Funky Foto Flashback. Get in on the groundfloor on this one, it's the next Random Tuesday Thoughts! I promise.

can I tell you? I don't think I've EVER had a swim suit that I loved. Ever. isn't that sad? I had a blue and white striped two piece when I was maybe 15 that I really liked, but it got stained by the clay in the lake where we swam.
I guess I kind of loved my J. Crew periwinkle blue once piece. It didn't show a lot of clevege, but it had this really low scooped back and these thin, criss crossed straps in the back.
I haven't had one I loved in a long time. Sigh. But that pic of you is adorable! What struck me is how much you look like Hank in that pic--that little face!
I think you're right...nautical is always in. Maybe you can have one custom made. That can't be too expensive, right? ;)
I wore one of my favorite suits when I was pregnant, and totally stretched it out beyond recognition.
You look ready for Cape Cod, or Martha's Vineyard, something East Coast-ish! You were so cute!
Girl! You are totally workin' that nautical number! Sad they don't make 'em like they used to.
I'm with Amy--you and Hank have a total lookalike thing going on. I think we need a "Twins across time" picture post.
I'd wear that. In a little bigger size of course. Okay, I'll be honest. A lot bigger.
Yes, I'm still using the poor man's scanner!
Jenni, I have a couple of J. Crew one pieces in mind too! I haven't had one in several years, but for a while those were great suits. Flattering and a good fit, and durable. I remember the one you're talking about.
Bex, that nautical bikini is hot! I like the Converse one better though. It's sporty in a nice way.
To me, a swimsuit is just a colorful tourniquet. LOATHE them.
But I did have one I loved. So much in fact, I bought two (because they're always getting discontinued, like your favorite nail polish color, your favorite lipstick). I'm kicking myself now for not buying ten . . . in the next size up. Grrr.
Does Hank look just like you? I mean except for the girly swimsuit and all...so cute!
Oh, what a cutie and you look like you're about to bolt into the ocean and swim away. Little girl's swimsuits are some of the cutest inventions ever. Elliot has like FIVE (mostly hand me downs) but they're all flattering to her pudgy baby belly and I love them all.
I much prefer buying swimsuits for the boys than for moi. It takes just 10 seconds for each kid to see what colors/patterns he likes and there is no trying on involved and we get home and the size number is true to size and they wear one all summer long and that is the end of the story.
I used to have the coolest Wonder Woman bathing suit. When I outgrew it, we somehow kept it around for some reason. It came in handy when my younger cousin came over to play in the sprinkler one year, though. Did I mention this was a boy cousin? Too bad there weren't pictures of *that*!
I love that determined & confident look on your face. I'm sure the suit had something to do with it. I mean, it's a bathing suit with fake suspenders. Surf on, little girl!
Too cute!
Didn't have a favorite suit especially, but I did have Wonder Woman Underoos 'bra' and underpants set that I loved.
