I think it turned out really cute. I want to do more, but I wonder how many is too many? As you may remember, I have a penchant for spray painting things white. Or not truly white, but actually Krylon's indoor/outdoor paint in Ivory Satin. Same paint I use on everything. I like this a lot.
Maybe you're like me--I want to start decorating for fall, but I'm not really ready for a grinning orange jack o' lantern. This will ease me into October, I think. Not surprisingly, it is very easy to spray paint a pumpkin. So why the heck not? The only sort-of tricky part was masking the stem. As I was carefully putting blue painter's tape around it, I thought, "Is this what nature intended? I mean, what am I doing? Did my ancestors learn to walk upright, and tame fire, so that I could arrive at this moment?" I guess the answer is, "Yep."
I can't decide, though, if I like it in the living room, or on the dining room table. I like it as a nice, simple centerpiece. But it is kind of anchoring my whole bookshelf tableau at the mo.
I think what I'll do is get another pumpkin and paint it a nice light celery green, and put it in that spot. Then it might sorta match some of my pottery. (As much as I thought it wouldn't happen to me, I've inherited my mother's pottery addiction.) The MSL picture I saw had a bunch of painted pumpkins on a front porch, but I'm enjoying this baby inside.
So this is what's happening over here.

I love it! So Krylon spray is all you need? Excellent.
Looks very cool. Who woulda thought of spray painting pumpkins? It opens up a whole new world of fall decorating!
On an unrelated note...those candle holders on your table. How did you get the candles in there? In the photo, the openings of the glasses look way too small. Is it just me?
She looks purty. But you do know that natural white pumpkins are available, right? - Did I just ruin everything?
Ha! They are, aren't they. Too true. No, you didn't ruin everything! I thought about that today--I even had one of the white pumpkins last year. But they don't look exactly like the orange ones, you know? Plus, these go to eleven. :)
And Amy, the top of the candle holder lifts off. See the little saucers? Or maybe I have magic powers.
Hmm. Do I want to do this? Yes. I think I do.
I love the white pumpkin, and the celery green one sounds great too for your decor.
I'm just worried about Hank... what does he think of all this? I'm sure he prefers his pumpkin a natural orange color. So maybe that one (orange) is on your front porch?
I love the spray painting pumpkin idea but am way too lazy to do it. I think I'll head to Costco for a bag O'gourds.
Your house looks great. Could you come to Houston to do mine?
I love the white one on your table. Perfect fall centerpiece!
I never thought of painting a pumpkin - brilliant! I like the one on your bookshelf and love the idea of a celery colored one. In my humble opinion, a smaller one would look better on your table.
I spent $40 yesterday on four 'specialty' type pumpkins of varying shapes, colors and fancy looking stems. I think my husband thinks I'm insane!
I was going to tell you that my neighbor has naturally white pumpkins, but I saw that DM beat me to it! I love the celery green idea, too.
I just saw Martha Stewart on the Today Show and she had the green pumpkins - I was so excited to see them right after I read your blog - but this year, they have glitter on them :) I like the look you have going, but if you want to get fancy...
I shtumbled on these photos this morning in you photostream and really loved them!
I gotta tell ya, at first I didn't believe that you'd really painted the punkin.
Brilliant idea! Just brilliant.
We used naturally white pumpkins for our fall wedding a couple years ago---also an idea from MSL. I think they turned out really nicely. We put potted mums in them as our center pieces.
Love it.
Love love love.
Love.
Downright nifty idea. Love it.
I bet you're a fun Mom to have for Hallowe'en, too!
I LOVE THE PUMPKIN ON THE TABLE.
Rustic elegance.
I have a spray painting fetish too and you're not helping. I saw a painted pumpkin in my neighborhood today and I think I'm next.
Oh Man, so cooool. I have never seen a white pumpkin and never thought about spray painting one. Very clever mate.
