Babywatch

Couldn't this be Hank?
My brother David and his wife Katie are having their baby today. Like, she's working on it right now, while I get to sit here drinking coffee and wearing pants. As we say in the South, let's love on her. Go Kate go!

I took a picture of this picture of my brother when I was at my parents' house in Florida this past week. I can't believe how much the little David looks like Hank. I also can't believe that little boy is having his own little boy. It's babies having babies!

The due date was almost two weeks ago, so this wait has given everyone in the family time to get into an utter tizzy. It has invaded our collective dream life. The other day I posted on Katie's facebook wall:
I had a dream in which I was driving you around to yard sales in an attempt to get your labor started. I don't know if that would work, really.
Then Dave texted me:
Had a dream that you were excited about the baby and sorta roughed me up.
Okay, that was weird. So this baby needs to get here quick, and/or we need a psychoanalyst who can help us sort through our issues.

And then Amy told me, "We're getting a nephew and we never got a nephew at the same time before!" Which I had not thought of. She and I each have a nephew, but it is not the same nephew. This baby boy will be both our nephew and will be auntie double-teamed by us.

The other day on the phone, Katie said she was waiting and trying not to get discouraged, and I thought, "Why would she be discouraged?" Then I remembered, in a flash, how it felt when I was waiting for Hank, who was induced ten days post-date. Have you experienced this? I got to this weird point where it's like I thought the baby would never be born. It was disheartening. It's just a hard time, those last weeks and days. And it turned out he was just lying up in there getting huge. Hank weighed 9.5 pounds. (My midwife was some kind of wizard and we'll leave it at that.)

So I just got back from Florida with the kids late last night, and I'll have more reportage soon, and right now my parents are heading north somewhere on I-95 to go see the baby, and we four are all trying to get out the door to go to the mountains for one last bit of vacation, but I am totally distracted and useless thinking about this baby. Get here, baby!

Will keep you posted. I hope y'all are having a good weekend.

Love,
The World's Worst Blogger

Omg I'm so excited! Baby! Baby! Baby! I forgot Hank was so gargantuan, btw. Dang.

Not to get all sycophantic and everything, but I think you are the World's BEST Blogger. And now wonderful news about a baby on top of that!

Ditto Amy's "Baby! Baby! Baby!" and everything Common Household Mom wrote. Hurray for the impending nephew!

I remember EXACTLY what that was like. My first two children were over two weeks "late," and the second was nearly ten pounds. Big makes for happy babies, though, is my motto. The more time in there cookin' the better, although I can remember being MISERABLE and never wanting to do it again. When number three came along, I had clearly forgotten!

Good luck to you SIL and keep us posted. (and that resemblance is uncanny --)

Go Katie!!

Ooh, how exciting!!!

Nope, I have no idea what that feels like. Having teeny preemies (28 & 36 weeks), I'm actually a wee bit jealous of long pregnancies.

Can't wait for baby news!

And it is absolutely nutso how much Hank looks like Dave. Nutso.

C'mon, baby! Although baby is probably already here by now, so, welcome baby.

When you say midwife, are you telling me you pushed the 9.5 lb bowling ball out of your secret tunnel with no meds? Cause that's the nutso part.

Very exciting!! Can't wait to hear more news. I had Seamus on his actual due date, and I still remember feeling anxious during that last week, waiting and waiting for him to come.

Yay to the whole family! I remember the photo of them dancing that jig at your cousins wedding in FL so I had to go check it out and determine if they were expecting back then cuz I'm all nosey like that. I'm in awe that in your post you've mentioned that you and Katie went "past due". There are so many stories these days of having to have the baby arrive on a certain schedule (and certainly not on a Sunday!).
Lots of love to everyone.

Wow, that could totally be Hank. Your brother was a cutie! Congrats on being an Aunt again. Babies are super fun when you get to spoil them and send them back, it's grandparentness in training.

Well, I can report that young Master Gabriel is a fine handsome lad with blue eyes and fine golden hair. His eyes are open and watching very intelligently. I changed his diaper as David said he had never done a diaper. Ha! He will soon be an expert! His little body is rounded out and he has long delicate fingers that will play a piano or guitar one day. Katie is well although exhausted. She labored hard! I think all parties will feel better after a good night's sleep. Healthy, robust babies are such an incredible blessing.

Thanks for the update Ma! Baby Gabe was born in the wee hours of the morning. If I could figure out how to, using only my phone out here in the wilderness, I would add a pic. He is so cute. And I don't say that about all the babies.

Beth, secret tunnel?!? I just died. I am dead. Nah, my midwife delivered H in the hospital, where I'd had an epidural. But she got him out without trauma, whereas the OB who delivered Laura did an episiotomy for that 8lb baby.

Wow, he does look like Hank!

Miles was 10 days post date too. It does feel like an eternity when they stay put.

Congrats on baby Gabe. He's a looker.

I'm reporting from the hospital room where all of the young Odoms are well. Katie and Dave got some sleep last night, although not undisturbed. Gabe is very content to lie in Papa's arms without crying. Of course, it could be because his Mama just fed him. What's to complain about? They will probably be discharged tomorrow. I hope to give Becky some pix to post, as I have no idea how to. Smiles all around!
